Counselling for children, adolescents and young people may improve their wellbeing and mental health. Working with a range of difficulties that are common for children and young people to face and need support with.
Some of the areas I work with are anxiety and low mood, anger and sadness, intrusive thoughts, family and relationships, communication, self image and self esteem, school difficulties and EBSA, exploring and understanding neurodivergent conditions.
Although I am an integrative counsellor, the core of my work with children is Person Centred and where appropriate, we use creative work and play to support communication and building a trusting relationship.
When working with children it is not common practice to share the content of sessions with parents / guardians, unless previously agreed by the child or young person. Confidentiality is key to building trust and encouraging open communication.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is a priority and parents / guardians will be informed of any safeguarding concerns, unless doing so puts the child at risk. Depending on the nature of the concern, other agencies may be contacted. A copy of the safeguarding policy will be provided as part of the booking process.
