This is hard to say as everyone is individual and processes things differently. We will have regular reviews of our work together to establish when would be a suitable time to finish therapy.
My counselling practice provides a completely confidential space to talk and explore difficulties you are experiencing.
(With the exception of the ethical boundaries to confidentiality. These are explained and agreed between us as part of the counselling agreement which is completed at our first Counselling session).
Counsellors and psychotherapists are trained to listen and reflect with you, providing a safe environment in which to explore any issues, everyday life events, mental health, emotional difficulties and anything you wish to talk about. It is not often that we can be really open and honest and explore our inner most thoughts and feelings without judgement from others. Counselling provides this shared non-judgmental space. Psychotherapy works at a deeper level of exploring your processes and history and looks at how this may be affecting you today.
Working with anyone in counselling requires building a trusting relationship and this will be our initial focus. Depending on the individual needs of a child I often use creative therapy techniques to help them explore their feelings and difficulties.
